Ditched

Some days are hard as a kid. When I came home from work, Trace was really sad and started to cry when I asked him what was wrong. He started crying harder and told me that he was wrong to think that a kid at school was his friend. After I got him to calm down a little bit, he told me through tears that this group of older kids had "bitched" him in the hallway. It took all I had not to smile at the wrong use of the word, but I started worry if they had assaulted him and he meant "bitch slapped" him. Finally, between the two of us, Kevin and I got him to explain that he was playing with these kids in the hallway between lunch and recess and they purposely "Ditched" him. Left him behind, tricked him into thinking he was in their group and then left him behind. It is so true what they say about how when your child is in pain, you are too. I so wished I could take away his heart ache and yet, I couldn't. We just talked to him about how sometimes people do mean things and that you can't let it upset you and that those that treat you poorly are not your true friends. Thankfully, by dinner time, he was back to his old self, but I truly hope that we don't have another incident like it again anytime soon.
