School Pictures

School picture time is here! Even though he still had his cast on, Trace did a great job and brought his charming personality to the photo shoot and I just loved the results! How perfect is it that the number 5 is in the background?

Sticks and Stones

One morning, I had taken part of the day off work in order to take Trace to get his 5 year old photos professionally taken. As is fairly common, when he woke, he came to snuggle with me and we started playing and wrestling around on my bed. We sometimes play a game where I put his green blanket over his head and he walks like a "zombie" and tries to find me and "attack". After playing a couple rounds of that game, I noticed the time on the clock and said "Whoa! We need to get ready, we're going to be late!" and I hopped out of bed. Trace was just behind me and it turned out he had put the blanket over his head and walked right off the bed! He fell off the bed and tried to catch himself but landed right on his wrist! I tried to reach out a catch him, but I was a bit too far away and his legs slipped right through my hands. Of course, he began to cry and I thought we were okay for a minute, but as the minutes passed, I started to worry all was not okay. So I called Kevin, told him that we were heading to the ER and I'd call him with the status. When we got there he was so brave! He looked so sad, I could hardly believe it! They took him back to get X-rays and the nurses came out saying he did so good! I was simply flabbergasted when they came back to announce that he had a fracture in both bones in his arm. Oh no! They had to just wrap it up in the ER and we made an appointment with the orthopedic surgeon for the next day.

I couldn't get over how sad he looked at the ER. Poor fella!

At home, we wrapped it in plastic wrap so he could take a bath.

When we got into the orthopedics office, he confirmed that both bones in his wrist had a compound fracture. The good news is that he said that with time, we won't even be able to tell that it was ever broken. Kevin took Trace in to get his cast and the doctor said Trace was the youngest kid he's ever had that chose the color black. ("So I can be like Vader Mommy!") Here's hoping this is the last major injury for this family for quite some time.

State Fair

Since we always love a trip to the State Fair and Kevin and my Dad were not feeling well, my Mom and I decided to take Trace to see the sights and let the men in our lives get some much needed rest.

Right when we entered the fair, we came upon a huge swimming pool with inflatable balls with kids and adults alike inside. As soon as Trace saw it, he said he wanted to try it and I was all for it. He got the hang of it really fast and had an absolute blast! He stood up and ran to move the ball around the pool and then purposely fell down and laughed hysterically. It was quite a scene to watch!
Since I'm a sucker, I also let Trace ride the ponies. He was quite the natural and wanted to go "off the circle" with the horse. Fortunately, the horse just went in circles as planned.

They had a BMX show that Trace didn't like much but Mommy loved it!

They also had a dog jumping show that Trace was much more interested in than the BMX show. He didn't want to sit with me because he needed a closer view. BTW, I love his hat!

All the dogs are rescue dogs and some of the tricks they performed were amazing!

The best part of the visit for me was the old-timey western photography studio. Since I had such a cute picture of Trace when he was just a baby in the same type of set-up, I simply could NOT pass this up. As you can see, the end result is simply adorable!
