Ever since I was a kid I've liked to camp. My family didn't really do camping except for church events, but I came to really like being in the outdoors. Well, I should say I liked the fresh air and cool temperatures. What I don't like is the bugs, dirt, heat, sleeping on the hard ground and bears. (I have an irrational fear of bears, ask anyone.) While Kevin was growing up, his family was the same way. They camped with church events, but not really as a family. Kevin's Mom doesn't like bugs, dirt, sleeping on the ground etc. Then, when we were newly married we got invited to spend time with Kevin's older sister Chrystalin and her husband Jono at his family cabin. We really liked the camping environment but with the added benefit of a solid roof over our heads and mattresses. Kevin and I were talking about how important it is for Trace to have good memories and family vacations and things like that while he's still young. Then, we had an opportunity to purchase a camping trailer from a distant family member and it got us thinking. We ended up not buying the one they had for sale, but instead we went to the local RV dealership and bought a brand new camper trailer for us to use and try this "family camping" business. The thought is that we could create some memories with extended family and Trace, but not break the bank and not have to deal with as many bugs, dirt, uncomfortable sleeping arrangements and of course, bears.
It's just a small one (21 feet long) that we can pull behind our V6 Jeep, but I like that it has a Queen bed, bunk beds, dining table that can be converted into another bed. I think the manual says it can sleep 6, but it is certainly big enough for the 3 of us. It has a heater and air conditioner, small shower, toilet, 2 top range, microwave and fridge. Kevin also hooked us up (literally) by hanging a TV above the bed and connected it to a Blue Ray player and removable speakers. One of my favorite parts is the extendable 13 foot shade that comes off the side when you are parked. Something so nice about sitting outside under the shade and enjoying the fresh air. Let's hope we have the chance to make many good memories with our new family toy.
