After baseball season was over, I enrolled Trace in an indoor basketball league to stay active and get some experience with the game. All the games were set to happen on Saturday, so since Kevin couldn't come, we arranged for Nana and Papa to join us for a few to check out the little one and his team. When we were heading to the very first game of the season, we got stopped in an abrupt traffic jam and although I stopped in plenty of time not to hit the car in front of me, the "toaster-type" car behind me didn't stop and the truck behind them plowed into both of us. Thankfully, my little Acura RDX held up pretty well and it only needed the back lift-gate and bumper replaced. Trace was a little shaken up by the whole experience and ended up with a cut on his chin that might have been caused by the drink straw he was drinking, but he was calm and followed my instructions perfectly. He called Kevin while I talked to the police and Kevin joined us on the side of the freeway since he was trying to get off early to see the game anyway. Trace took the missing of his first basketball game like a champ and was really sweet about the whole thing. We realized as we were sitting there that it was the first car accident Trace had ever been in. We made it through an entire series of car seats without one accident with him in the car! Good job to me and Kevin! I told him I hope it's also the last car accident he'll ever be in, but used it as a lesson as to why it is so important to wear your seat-belt always, no matter whose car you're in. I hope he always remembers to be safe, I sure love that little one and worry about his safety constantly.
