A Visit to Alabama Part Three

The first day we were there, we decided to visit a place about 20 minutes away from Huntsville called "Harmony Park Safari". It is a privately-run park that houses a bunch of animals including; emus, llamas, sheep, ram, cows, bulls, alligators, pigs, a kangaroo, zebra and even a giraffe. They also had a reptile house that we visited after the drive through the safari.

When you arrive, all the parties in your car are given a red solo cup full of feed for you to feed the animals as you slowly drive through the park. You can tell the animals are used to this routine, because as soon as you enter the gates, they come trotting over to see what you have to give them. It was a lot of fun to see Trace squeal with delight as the animals approached the vehicle and reach their heads in to get a treat. We had Kevin driving, my Dad in the passenger seat and Trace, Mom and I in the back seat. Kevin kept a slow pace through the park, but occasionally the most persistent of animals would block our path and we'd have to stop for a bit. We laughed because there was one sheep that had fairly large horns and when he didn't get food, he'd lightly "ram" the car to get our attention. Thank heaven for rental car insurance!

This is the ram that kept ramming us.

Look at that face in the reflection!

It was so hot I wished I could cool off like this too.

After we went through and fed the animals twice, we parked the car and ventured over to the "reptile house". I use the term loosely because it was really like a poorly built house that had reptiles in it. I was a little freaked out as I passed cage after cage that had a warning about a snake being venomous and the top was a screen with a rock on the top. Not very secure in my mind, but we moved through quickly. When we were done being freaked out in the reptile house, we went outside and got to see a couple of really big tortoises and a mama pig and her piglets that were born just the day before!
