When we first arrived at the camp site, we started a fire and got familiar with our surroundings. The boys got a fire started and even bought packets of chemicals that when they burned, they burned several different colors! They were so fun to watch!
The next morning got up and had breakfast and headed to the Idaho Falls Zoo. It was funny because Trace insisted that he wear his "Junior Ranger" outfit to the zoo, to be more authentic and Cam was slightly horrified at the thought that his cousin had to "dress up" to go out. He said; "Can't you just wear regular clothes?" I personally was proud that Trace didn't let peer pressure decide what he did, he just wanted to wear it, so he did.
At the zoo, we got to see a lot of animals and even pet some at the petting zoo and at animal encounters around the zoo. They had the pelt of a lion that had passed away there and it was neat to see the size of the paws and feel the mane of a real lion.
Since the zoo was not nearly as large as the one here in Salt Lake, we had enough time to also visit the local museum that was having a "Steampunk" exhibit. We didn't know much about steampunk before we entered, but we had a great time there! We learned lots of things and got to participate in experiments that explore the range of motion of the human body and the things that it is capable of. They had all kinds of exhibits that were interactive. We tried on costumes that were steampunk based, we rode a bike that generated power to inflate a balloon and even completed an electrical current with our bodies!
The next day, we decided to drive to Rexburg Idaho and meet up with my parents for a visit to "Bear World". We had been there before and even were there with my parents before, but never with Cam and neither my parents or Cam had done the excursion wherein you can feed the bears from the large truck. So we decided to do it again and of course, it was a hit! It worked out nice since we had both boys, my parents took Trace and helped him with the feeding and Kevin and I had Cam, so I felt good that we wouldn't lose either boy off the side of the truck into the bear habitat. We also had a good time in the petting part of the park, I think adults and kids alike had a nice time petting and feeding the more docile animals at the park.
The next day, we again met up with my parents for the annual St. Anthony Idaho Pioneer Day parade. This small town has HUGE roads that fill with people from towns all around Idaho. They really know how to do a parade! All the floats were well done, there was tons of horses and classic cars and we could NOT believe the amount of candy those folks threw out! The boys never sat the entire parade and they were exhausted by the time the parade ended. They had free snow cones and tons of free samples and toys. Kevin and I liked the free jerky the most! Directly after the parade, we headed to the park at the front of town for the traditional car show. My parents had brought my Dad's corvette specifically to enter into the show, and I think he checked some things off his bucket list being able to come back to his home town and show off his fast car. Papa bought us lunch at the show and when the boys were done playing on the playground and had seen all the cars several times, I decided to take them to the beach area across the river for some water play and sunshine. Cam spent the whole time trying to catch little minnow fish and Trace spent the time trying to get me wetter than I wanted to get.
On the way back to Idaho Falls, both boys fell asleep, which gave them plenty of energy to get right back in the water at our campground pool and practice their jumps from the side of the pool into their floatation devices, repeatedly, for hours until dinnertime. After dinner the boys took showers, got ready for bed and counted out the mountain of candy they had gotten that morning. All in all, a really good trip with great fun and good company.
